Chemical Peel Aftercare
First 24 hours Post-Chemical Peel
- Avoid strenuous workouts, dry saunas, and steam rooms on the day of the peel or for 24 hours post-peel. Increased blood circulation can intensify uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
- Do not apply anything to face until the following evening.
First Week Post-Peel
- Moisturize. Peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier. A medium-thick moisturizer will reinforce the barrier.
- Hydrate. Increasing your water intake will help avoid dehydration post-peel.
- Apply SPF 30 or higher. Reapply SPF throughout the day to maintain protection.
- Do NOT exfoliate. Peels are maximum strength exfoliants. Further exfoliation in the week following a peel can cause damage and sensitivity.
- Do NOT pick or peel skin – The dead skin will shed and peel when the layer of skin underneath is healed. Picking at the skin may expose skin that isn’t ready and cause further damage.
- Hats – As an added layer of precaution, it is recommended that you provide extra UV protection for your skin by wearing a hat when in the sun for the two weeks following a peel.
